Unexpected Encounter: Motorcyclists Stumble Upon Cumbre Vieja’s Natural Splendor

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 26 September (EUROPA PRESS) –

Civil Guard officers from the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) on La Palma, in conjunction with Environment officers from the Cabildo, apprehended two individuals aged 35 and 24, who reside in Breña Alta, while they were riding a motorcycle in a protected zone of Cumbre Vieja.

The officers, during routine checks to monitor hunting activities, caught these two individuals riding enduro motorcycles on tracks and trails within the Protected Natural Space of Cumbre Vieja Natural Park, located in the municipality of Mazo, significantly breaching both road safety regulations and those concerning mountains and Protected Natural Spaces.

Upon interception by the officers, it was established that the motorcycles were uninsured and had not undergone the obligatory regulatory Technical Inspection (ITV).

Furthermore, one of the riders did not possess the necessary regulatory documentation for the motorcycle and lacked a valid driving licence, leading to an investigation for a violation of road safety laws, which could result in a prison sentence of three to six months, a fine ranging from twelve to twenty-four months, or community service for a period of thirty-one to ninety days.

The proceedings have been forwarded to the Police Investigation Court of Santa Cruz de La Palma.
