The Cabildo of Tenerife, through Environmental agents, has managed to identify the owner of a drone that was used on June 29 in a protected area and without authorization that caused a fire outbreak in the municipality of Buenavista del Norte. , within the protected space of the Teno Rural Park.
The Minister of Natural Environment, Sustainability and Security and Emergencies, Blanca Pérez, has pointed out that one of the important roles that Environmental agents have is the investigation of the causes of fires.
In this sense, on June 29, an attempt was recorded in the upper area of Masca and the agents investigated and discovered that it had been a drone that had collided with the stones and had caught on the vegetation that was very dry. Fortunately, the attempt did not lead to a fire due to the quick response of the media.
The Environment agents carried out the investigation and located the owner of the drone, against whom a disciplinary file has been opened due to the prohibition of flying in this type of spaces without the mandatory authorization from the managing bodies of the Cabildo de Tenerife.
The insular director of the Natural Environment, Pedro Millán, explained that they have increased control over infractions in the natural environment and for that there is the body of Environment agents of the Cabildo, who is also working in coordination with the Civil Guard, the Police Canaria and the Local Police. “We are carrying out daily work in different areas of environmental protection and conservation in Tenerife and the investigation and resolution of this case is an example of this,” he added.
The Environment Agents of the Cabildo carried out the investigation after the fire was extinguished and identified the owner of the drone. The attack occurred in the area of Ladera del Morro (Roque Tarucho), in Masca, a site with difficult access that required aerial resources at a time when the pre-alert situation was decreed due to the risk of forest fire.
A Brifor helicopter, members of the Canarian Police, Civil Guard, Local Police of Buenavista de Norte, Volunteer Firefighters, Emergency and Rescue Group, as well as nine professionals from the area’s Fire Extinguishing Service, were mobilized in the incident. The quick response prevented the fire from spreading in an area with very complicated terrain.
