SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 15 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife, through its Culture department, is fostering publishing activities on the island by announcing regulations and a call for grants aimed at businesses and entrepreneurs for publishing projects in 2024, dedicating 80,000 euros to this initiative.
José Carlos Acha, the Minister of Culture and Museums of Tenerife, emphasises in a statement that the department supports the literary sector via a network of island libraries. Various initiatives have been launched, including a renewed active participation in the Book Fair and financial assistance for projects connecting publishers and emerging authors.
Furthermore, he adds, “We are working towards the reopening of the Cabildo Bookstore, and we’ve established new grant conditions in collaboration with publishers, booksellers and authors, increasing the total amount to 80,000 euros to better align with their actual requirements.”
The grants detailed in these regulations are designed to provide financial aid for the publication of books on topics concerning the culture department’s areas of focus, which include poetry, fiction, graphic novels, theatre, art, philosophy, music, geography, essays, works aimed at popularising knowledge, or studies within technical, humanistic, social, or scientific fields, as well as historical texts, historical analyses, and anthropological research. This also encompasses participation in fairs or exhibitions within the publishing industry at regional, national, or international levels where the publishing entity or entrepreneur is actively involved.
Books in Spanish, exceeding 35 pages, eligible for grants must meet any of the following criteria: works published by a company or entrepreneur based in Tenerife, texts centred around issues related to the Canary Islands—preferably pertaining to Tenerife—and works created within the cultural context of Tenerife, that is, authored by individuals from or residing in Tenerife.
