SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 14th Oct (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife, via the Mobility department, has commenced the installation of the sixth module of the walkway comprising the Great Island Ring of Padre Anchieta. This is one of the key components of the mentioned infrastructure, as it constitutes the central section and half of the ring.
The operation took place on Monday, involving two large cranes, which facilitated the assembly of the piece. In this context, the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, expressed her satisfaction with the progress of the works and noted that the seventh module is scheduled for installation in the week of 21st October, to be followed by modules 8 and 9. Subsequently, the pedestrian ring structure is expected to be completed by the end of November with the installation of modules 10 and 11.
“The planning of the construction is ongoing, and we anticipate completing the civil work between April and May. It is important to note that this walkway will transform the image of Padre Anchieta and the city of La Laguna; an infrastructure with a design that received the 2019 National Innovation and Design Awards, presented by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of Spain,” Dávila explained.
Furthermore, the president of the insular Corporation reminded that the influence of this Great Pedestrian Ring on congestion “is significant, alleviating one of the most critical points on the Northern highway. During peak times, waiting periods are reduced by 50%, which facilitates smoother traffic flow and substantial time savings for our motorists.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Highways, Dámaso Arteaga, who has been overseeing the assembly operations, remarked that the installation has necessitated alterations to traffic due to the closure of two lanes on the Padre Anchieta roundabout. Consequently, access from the TF-5 to the TF-24 highway (towards La Esperanza), Astrofísico Francisco Sánchez street, and Avenida de La Trinidad will be closed.
The traffic alterations will persist until Thursday, 17th October. Due to the closures, the following diversions have been implemented: access from TF-5 to TF-24 and Astrofísico Francisco Sánchez street via Lora and Tamayo-Mayber street-Camino San Miguel de Geneto-Domingo González Pérez street-TF-265 or El Coromoto. The closures will be enforced at night from 8:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
The construction of the Great Pedestrian Ring of Padre Anchieta includes 11 metal sections weighing 40 tons each (totaling 1,500 tons) along with 3 connecting ramps (North, Centre, and South) and represents an investment of 8.8 million euros. The project, conducted by Obras Huarte Lain SA, involves the assembly of the four modules that constitute the north ramp, measuring 125 metres in length and 1.85 metres in free width. This ramp is supported by seven square-section metal piles that have already been installed. The Tenerife Cabildo urges drivers to remain alert at all times.
The Tenerife Cabildo encourages drivers to exercise extreme caution while travelling through the area during the construction and to consistently heed the signs and guidance from the Roads Area personnel.
