Tenerife’s Cabildo Unveils New Electric Vehicle Charging Station in El Tanque

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 8 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo of Tenerife is set to invest nearly 68,000 euros in the establishment and commissioning of a public charging point for electric vehicles in the municipality of El Tanque.

The development of the facility, which will be situated in the Luis Contreras car park, will proceed following the northern city council’s approval for the allocation of the space during the most recent plenary session.

The location will feature a power output of 22 kilowatts and will incorporate a canopy with photovoltaic panel installations aimed at generating 100% renewable energy for the system.

The councillor for Natural Environment, Sustainability, and Security and Emergencies, Blanca Pérez, emphasises in a statement that “the initial step towards realising the public charging point is that the El Tanque City Council has undertaken the transfer of the area in the Luis Contreras car park.”

In her view, “this reflects the Cabildo’s commitment to new technologies, and our aspiration is for every corner of the island to be equipped with small infrastructures that facilitate the proliferation of electric mobility across the territory, which we acknowledge is the immediate future.”

Additionally, she points out, “we aim to diminish atmospheric emissions since transport powered by fossil fuels constitutes one of the principal contributors to the release of greenhouse gases.”

Blanca Pérez also mentions that “it is crucial to make such investments in smaller municipalities like El Tanque that lack the financial means to undertake this type of infrastructure independently.”

Meanwhile, the island director of Medio Natural, Pedro Millán, recalls that the Cabildo is working on developing an island-wide network of charging points for electric vehicles, and for this, it is “vital” that local councils facilitate land transfers.

“This enables us to carry out the essential works to set up the charging stations,” he explains.

The Cabildo of Tenerife is advancing a scheme for 38 electric vehicle charging points across Tenerife, with an investment of 2,671,000 euros, funded through the Cabildo’s resources alongside support from European Next Generation EU funds.
