SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE Nov. 13 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife will convene this Wednesday during the fourth ‘Drought Table’ to prolong the declaration of water emergency until the 28th of February to ensure emergency measures are in place to maintain water supply to the primary sector.
This was announced by the president, Rosa Dávila, during a press briefing to discuss the resolutions of the Government Council. She also mentioned that an additional €3 million will be allocated to the hydraulic infrastructure programme, raising the total investment to €13.5 million.
These new financial resources will primarily focus on six purification facilities located in the Eastern, Western, and Southern regions.
The president expressed her hopes for enhanced “effectiveness” of these initiatives in the forthcoming months, highlighting that nearly all 75 measures included in the water emergency declaration have already been executed, excluding restrictions which have not been deemed necessary.
Nevertheless, she acknowledged that the situation on the island “remains critical” due to insufficient rainfall, thus necessitating the extension of the emergency to ensure a greater water supply for farmers.
“We cannot rely on rainfall, and the current flow is still very challenging; it is unlikely to improve. The decree enables us to guarantee water supply for agriculture,” she stated.
