Tenerife’s Cabildo Allocates €505K for San Juan de La Rambla Mountain Enhancements

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE Nov. 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo of Tenerife is set to enhance the mountains of San Juan de la Rambla, La Guancha and Icod de los Vinos with an expenditure of approximately 505,000 euros.

The contract for the project has recently been awarded to the public company Gesplan, which is tasked with implementing silvicultural treatments aimed at managing plant fuel in areas of monteverde (fayal-brezal) and humid Canarian pine forest across several sections of the mountains in the mentioned municipalities for a duration of six months.

The Minister for Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security and Emergencies, Blanca Pérez, notes in a statement that efforts are ongoing to enhance the forests through preventive forestry and fuel management initiatives to “reduce” the risks associated with potential fires.

“These are crucial activities to ensure our native species can thrive naturally and, as much as possible, assist us in preventing wildfire spread,” she emphasises.

The treatments will involve thinning of Canarian pine in forests generated through artificial replanting or natural regeneration following the removal of mature stands while preserving parent trees.

Specifically, this pertains to pine trees that typically measure less than 30 centimetres in diameter.

The designated areas have already been previously managed, ensuring that this process will not be systematically applied but will instead cater to the specific local requirements of the treatment batch.

Furthermore, the process will involve clearing underbrush, trimming pine forests, selectively replanting heather, and resurfacing and pruning of faya.

In terms of waste disposal, the tasks encompass collection, removal, selection, and preparation for local use or chipping.
