Tenerife Invests €250,000 in Tech Solutions for Flower Growers and Exporters

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 4 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo of Tenerife has allocated a grant of 250,000 euros to Asocan, the Association of Growers and Exporters of Live Flowers and Plants in the Canary Islands, intending to support sustainable agricultural innovation within Tenerife’s flower and plant production sector.

This announcement was made by the Minister for the Primary Sector, Valentín González, who emphasised that it is “the only agricultural association within the ornamental subsector of Tenerife.” This funding initiative aims to “encourage a more effective and contemporary use of agricultural facilities.”

At present, the association comprises 93 members, all of whom are self-employed or represent small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), distributed across almost all the islands, with the majority being based on Tenerife. Here, over 60 businesses are involved in the production of plants and flowers, including aromatic plants for export.

The plants and flowers sector on the island has played a significant role over the past 50 years. Currently, the more than 60 companies operating here account for a revenue of approximately 30 million euros, representing over 70% of the entire sector in the Canary Islands, which has an overall turnover of 40 million euros.

The grant can be utilised for expenses related to recycled production or post-harvest materials, initiatives aimed at enhancing irrigation efficiency and fertiliser usage, as well as projects aimed at increasing the use of local natural substrates.
