The initial group of firefighters from Tenerife who were dispatched to Valencia to assist with flood relief operations following DANA has returned to the island this Friday, “exhausted, yet content.”
This sentiment was shared on their X profile, indicating that a total of 18 firefighters laboured “diligently to bring a glimmer of hope amidst the disaster.”
In their stead, a rescue team has been established with several members who journeyed to Valencia on Thursday, November 7, to continue the efforts in the regions most impacted by DANA.
Iván Martín, the president of the Tenerife Firefighters Consortium, asserts that the new arrivals will infuse renewed enthusiasm and vigor into the search, clean-up, and rescue operations. “The new group will persist in their work guided by all pre-arranged logistics while prioritising safety and prevention,” he concludes.
Besides continuing with the tasks of pumping water, cleaning, and clearing out belongings and vehicles, a minute of silence was observed this Friday in remembrance of the victims.
