On Thursday morning, ten unaccompanied minors disembarked in El Hierro and are currently receiving “initial support.” However, they have not yet been issued a decree of abandonment, meaning they are not under the care of the Government of the Canary Islands, as per sources from the Administration itself. These children arrived aboard a cayuco alongside another 165 individuals, marking the first group welcomed by the Archipelago since the regional Government declared on Monday its refusal to accept the responsibility for more minors due to an overwhelmed reception network and a shortage of resources. The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, emphasised that no child would be left without care, hence the ten minors are accommodated in a facility situated in Valverde.
