The rainfall that occurred during the early hours of Friday in Tenerife has resulted in numerous incidents across the Island, particularly highlighting issues reported in Tacoronte, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and La Laguna.
As evidenced by the footage circulating online, several vehicles in Tacoronte were discovered covered in mud, a result of the soil displaced by the heavy downpour. The streets resembled rivers of mud with numerous stones hindering access.
Tacoronte was one of the areas in the Canary Islands with the most significant rainfall accumulation this Friday, recording 15mm of precipitation according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). Similar amounts were noted at Tenerife North Airport and San Cristóbal de La Laguna, where rainfall totalled 16mm. However, the most severely impacted municipality was La Victoria de Acentejo, which received 36.8mm.
In addition to the vehicles affected in Tacoronte, the rains also triggered rockfalls in the Anaga district, within the municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The El Draguillo-Benijo pathway was obstructed by the landslides, isolating homes and partially burying a vehicle. Personnel from the Natural Environment Unit (UMEN) are currently on site to clear the debris and restore access as swiftly as possible.
In La Laguna, the rainfall has impacted three educational institutions. At CEIP Camino Largo, damage was reported to the sports field, while CEIP Princesa de Tejina experienced disruptions in several classrooms. There were also incidents reported at the Northeast Adult Centre.
