SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 28 September (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, expressed his condolences over the passing of at least nine migrants when the vessel attempting to reach the island of El Hierro capsized. Additionally, searches are ongoing for another 48 individuals reported missing, while 27 survivors have been rescued.
“Regrettably, yet another tragedy highlights the perilous nature of the Atlantic Route,” the president of the Canary Islands stated on his official Twitter page, calling on Spain and the European Union to respond “resolutely” to what he described as a systemic humanitarian crisis.
“Among them are children, women, and men. Lives extinguished mere metres from the southern boundary of Europe,” lamented the leader of the Canary Islands Executive.
