Padre Anchieta Pedestrian Ring Welcomes Newest Addition: Third Module Installed

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 17 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Tenerife Island Council, via its Mobility department, has successfully installed the third module of the walkway that comprises the Padre Anchieta pedestrian ring road. This operation occurred yesterday afternoon, Monday, utilising two heavy-duty cranes for the assembly of the structure.

The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, has expressed her pleasure with the positive progress of the project and noted that, as scheduled, the installation of the fourth module is set for next Wednesday. In October, modules 6, 7, 8, and 9 will follow. Ultimately, the construction of the ring will be completed by the end of November with the installation of modules 10 and 11, although the ramp corresponding to Avenida Trinidad, the access to the Interchange, and the loop still require completion.

“The scheduling of the works is being adhered to, and as confirmed by the engineer responsible for the design and implementation, José Romo, the Grand Pedestrian Ring of Padre Anchieta is expected to be finished by April. It is crucial to remember that this is not merely a standard walkway; it will evolve into a landmark of Tenerife. This walkway will transform the appearance of Padre Anchieta and the city of La Laguna; an infrastructure recognised with the National Innovation and Design Awards 2019, awarded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of Spain,” Dávila elaborated.

The president further emphasised that the impact of this pedestrian ring on traffic congestion “is vital in alleviating bottlenecks at one of the most problematic sections of the Autopista del Norte”. “During peak hours, waiting times will be reduced by 50%, leading to enhanced traffic flow and significant time savings for our drivers,” she remarked.

In addition, the Councillor for Roads, Dámaso Arteaga, who has been overseeing the assembly operation, indicated that the installation necessitated traffic modifications in the vicinity from 8:00 p.m. last night until 6:00 a.m. today. This traffic interruption will affect Astrofísico Francisco Sánchez street and will remain in effect until Thursday during the same hours, from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

The construction of the Padre Anchieta pedestrian ring road involves eleven metal components weighing 40 tonnes each (a total of 1,500 tonnes) and three connecting ramps (North, Centre, and South), representing an investment of 8.8 million euros. The undertaking, carried out by the company Obras Huarte Lain SA, includes the assembly of the four modules that form the north ramp, measuring 125m in length and 1.85m in width. This ramp is supported by seven square-section metal piles, which have already been installed. The Cabildo urges drivers to remain attentive at all times.
