Over a Hundred Officers to Secure Cristo de La Laguna Celebrations

Yesterday, La Laguna City Council convened the final security coordination meeting ahead of the Santísimo Cristo celebrations, which will involve over a hundred personnel, as per information provided by the local authority. The event schedule commences today with the proclamation reading and will run until the 22nd.

The Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, presided over this meeting, attended by the councillors for Security and Festivals, Cristina Ledesma and Dailos González; the cathedral dean, Juan Pedro Rivero; and representatives from the Local Police of La Laguna, the National Police, the Civil Guard, the Army, as well as the management of the security plan and Roads from the Cabildo de Tenerife.

The local councillor expressed gratitude for “the dedication and participation of all security forces, who each year ensure that the numerous events we have arranged occur without significant incidents.” He highlighted that “a special reinforcement will be implemented on 14 September when a larger crowd from the city typically gathers for the main day of our celebrations.”

“Responsibility”

Towards the conclusion, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez seized the chance to urge the local community and visitors arriving in the municipality during this period “to enjoy this festive and religious programme responsibly and in moderation, while always respecting fellow citizens and the security professionals managing each event.”

The working meeting also provided an opportunity to assess the programme and the events necessitating heightened security measures, considering the anticipated attendance, as well as to organise any traffic disruptions resulting from these festivities, which will be communicated to the public via the appropriate municipal announcements.
