The sixteenth edition of La Noche en Blanco in La Laguna, the significant commercial and cultural revitalisation festivity, once again achieved a “resounding success”, establishing itself as one of the most awaited events on the Canary Islands calendar.
The Tenerife City Council highlights that it was a day where residents relished a varied and high-quality programme that attracted an enthusiastic audience, with staggered events ensuring the enjoyment of all participants without notable incidents, as confirmed by the Cecopal security measures implemented throughout the entire occasion.
The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, reiterated the sentiments he had already expressed on Saturday afternoon, stating that “the White Night has once again shown its strength in invigorating the commercial sector, serving as the best possible launch for the start of the Christmas shopping season, in an environment that has infused culture and art into our streets, which is one of the main distinctive features of our city.” He expressed gratitude to “the public institutions and private entities, as well as all the personnel involved in organising the event, for ensuring that the celebration proceeded without a hitch.”
The mayor of Commerce, Estefanía Díaz, emphasised the large turnout and engagement of citizens in an event that blended culture, leisure, and commerce, highlighting the “excellent reception and positive response from the public to the agenda crafted for all ages.” Moreover, she noted that “the variety of activities enhanced family comfort and facilitated a smooth flow of the public throughout the day.”
For the commercial sector, the outcome has been “positive”, enabling the cultivation of customer loyalty, showcasing their wide array of products and services for this Christmas campaign, and increasing sales, as indicated by the president of La Laguna Commercial Zone (LLZC), Iván Pérez. Furthermore, “this edition of the White Night did not overlap with Black Friday or commercial promotions, hence the sales recorded have been even more substantial for the sector,” he added.
Pérez also highlighted the positive response to the lockers service introduced this edition for storing purchases. “A feature well-received by both the public and the commercial sector, allowing for a more convenient shopping experience for attendees,” he said.
The daytime schedule was particularly geared towards families, with sports and cultural activities, workshops, play centres, and children’s and youth games that created a vibrant and festive atmosphere on the streets. The younger participants were the stars of the morning, enjoying offerings designed for sharing among friends.
As afternoon arrived, the emphasis shifted towards music and performances. Renowned artists such as Zenet, La Pegatina, Totó Noriega, and Tanxugueiras enthralled an audience that filled the various stages. The Plaza del Cristo emerged as the focal point of the event with the capacity crowd at Crystal Palace from the Trance Express company.
The parades by Canarian, national, and international companies also shone, including Remue Ménage, who infused Parisian allure with their work The Flight, and the itinerant magic of groups such as La Troupé Fantón from Gran Canaria, La Finestra Nou Circ from Valencia, and the Tiritirantes company from Burgos, alongside Carrilló’s performances arriving from Barcelona courtesy of Cía La Tal.
Additionally, the activation of the Christmas lighting provided an extra allure, enticing visitors to stroll through the illuminated streets while enjoying the extensive array of shops.
From the early hours, Cecopal, a security initiative supported by the Local Police, Canarian Police, National Police, and Civil Protection, among other state security forces and organisations, was activated to guarantee the smooth running of the event.
The drone unit of the National Police allowed real-time observation throughout the afternoon, enhancing management of areas with the highest public density and providing insights into the timings and areas with maximum crowd presence.
“La Noche en Blanco once again showcased its capability to amalgamate music, humour, magic, dance, sport, and culture at the highest level,” stated Estefanía Díaz, who remarked that “the primary objective of the day is to promote commerce and dining establishments.” There is no doubt that the city has shone brighter than ever, once again establishing La Laguna as one of the most attractive and charming commercial destinations in Tenerife.”
