SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 28 September (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Cabildo of El Hierro, Alpidio Armas, has “strongly” called for the urgent implementation of solutions regarding the humanitarian crisis that occurred this morning off the island’s coast, following the capsizing of a canoe.
In a voice message dispatched to the press, Alpidio Armas stated that in light of these “tragic” incidents, it is not enough to express sorrow; rather, we must “distinctly demand immediate solutions” following the fatalities of nine migrants and the disappearance of an additional 48 individuals.
Armas has insisted on the need for “understanding and human resources” to tackle a humanitarian emergency of such scale, emphasising that today’s incident “should compel us to ponder the number of boats and cayucos that are lost in the Atlantic, of which we lack any record”.
