The Canary Islands extended their support to Valencia right from the outset of the disaster: in light of the flooding and its severe repercussions, both the president of the regional Government, Fernando Clavijo, and the heads of the island councils expressed their readiness to dispatch personnel to the Valencian Community to assist in rescue and recovery efforts.
