Graffiti Artist Detained for Clash with Agent While Creating Urban Art

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 29 Oct (EUROPA PRESS) –

Officers from the Local Police of Santa Cruz de Tenerife apprehended a 25-year-old male in the early hours of last Sunday after he confronted one of the officers upon being caught defacing several facades with graffiti in the vicinity of Carmen Street. Monteverde, which is the capital of Tenerife.

The individual, identified as ABT, initially attempted to elude the police by concealing himself in a garage, but when located by one of the responding officers, he attempted to assault him.

The police operation was initiated following telephone alerts received by the Local Police Communications Room 092, reporting two youths painting on the facades in the area. The two officers who handled the situation were in plain clothes as part of a preventive operation aimed at deterring potential vandalism in the city. The officers observed both individuals, the suspect and his 26-year-old associate, applying graffiti to the security shutter of a commercial property.

Upon announcing their identity as police officers, the detained subject fled the scene while his accomplice remained, where they possessed around a dozen spray paint cans. One officer chased the fleeing suspect, who attempted to conceal himself in a nearby garage, whilst the other officer secured the second graffiti artist. When the officer intercepted the detainee, he resisted arrest and struggled, but was ultimately subdued and handcuffed.

The police called for additional support to transport the arrested individual to a healthcare facility before taking him to the police station. Following this, the officers conducted a thorough visual inspection of the location where the graffiti artists operated, noticing a number of graffiti around the perimeter of the Doctor Guigou health centre. Both individuals were charged with administrative offences in light of these occurrences.
