Four Detained at Tenerife South Airport for Smuggling Over 100 Kilos of Marijuana

Officers from the Civil Guard, part of the Fiscal and Border Division at Tenerife South airport, alongside Customs agents from the Tax Agency, have apprehended four individuals aged between 24 and 41, as suspected offenders of a public health offence, specifically drug trafficking.

The illicit activities came to light when Civil Guard officers and Customs officials from the Travel Service were conducting a random customs check on passengers and luggage from several flights arriving from non-EU countries, and noticed through X-ray scanners that something suspicious was likely concealed within the luggage of the four suspects (two suitcases each).

Consequently, they opted to question all the suspects, and upon observing their nervous and inconsistent behaviour, they proceeded to examine the eight suitcases. Inside, concealed within various types of fabric, they uncovered over 110 kilos of marijuana, vacuum-packed, as reported by the Civil Guard.

The individuals detained, along with the confiscated narcotics and the established proceedings, have been handed over to the relevant Judicial Authority.
