SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 18 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Vice-President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, announced today, Wednesday, the introduction of a series of five measures to tackle the “exceptional” migration crisis currently affecting the Canary Islands. This initiative includes, among other actions, the provision of 14 million euros in additional support to enhance the reception systems on the islands.
This set of measures was unveiled by the official responsible for promoting our European way of life during a press conference, where he was joined by the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, during his visit to the islands to address the migratory challenges confronting the archipelago.
Vice-President Schinas’ visit is intended to express solidarity with the inhabitants of Spain and the Canary Islands, as well as to reaffirm the EU’s ongoing support in migration management. During this visit, discussions will focus on how the European Union can continue to assist the Canary Islands and Spain in handling the rise in irregular arrivals, both through financial and operational resources, and by encouraging a more robust dialogue with key partner nations.
