VALVERDE (EL HIERRO), 2 (EUROPA PRESS)

A 44-year-old scuba diver was airlifted to the hospital in a stable condition after experiencing decompression sickness off the coast of El Hierro, as reported by the Emergency and Security Coordinating Centre (Cecoes) 112.

An alert indicated that a private vessel had rescued the diver and transported him to La Restinga Pier.

The Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) responded to the scene, where personnel provided initial care and subsequently transferred him to the hyperbaric chamber of a diving facility in La Restinga. There, a doctor and a nurse attended to him until a medical helicopter arrived to evacuate him to the helisurface of the aforementioned medical centre.

Finally, the Civil Guard initiated procedures and assisted with emergency resources.
