Discover La Laguna’s Wine Month: Free Guided Tours and Participation Details

The La Laguna City Council, via the Department of Primary Sector and the Cities on Foot initiative, in partnership with the Department of Culture, has arranged a series of eight guided tours through the city centre, collectively entitled ‘Al Son del Vino’. These tours feature tastings of wines from the Tacoronte-Acentejo Denomination of Origin, along with Lagunero cheeses, at the Teatro Leal.

This initiative is part of the ‘November, Wine Month’ programme, which has established La Laguna as the island’s focal point for wine promotion for over two decades, featuring activities that enhance the cultural offerings of the municipality.

‘Al Son del Vino’ commenced promotion in mid-October and quickly sold out the 160 available spots within three days, garnering more than 300 requests for participation. Due to the overwhelming interest in the itinerary, the Cities on Foot team has created a waiting list to accommodate potential cancellations and to ensure that each tour is filled. Individuals interested in being added to this waiting list can complete the form available on the activity portal: www.alsondelvino.es.

The website also provides details about ‘Al Son del Vino’: a programme featuring a miniseries of ten episodes scheduled to air throughout November, which will spotlight the wineries and cheese producers involved in the project. This supplement to the routes enjoys the collaboration of Culturamanía, a specialist portal dedicated to cultural promotion in the Canary Islands. This electronic medium also facilitated the project ‘La Laguna a Pie’, featuring guided itineraries conducted from March to June of this year, from which the idea for ‘Al Son del Vino’ originated.

The routes, offered free of charge, are designed and led by accredited tourist guide Hortensia Ayala, lasting one hour each. They commence at Lomada de la Concepción and conclude at the Teatro Leal, while highlighting points of heritage interest in prominent areas such as Plaza de la Junta Suprema and San Agustín Street during the tour.

The first two walks are set to take place in the afternoon on Tuesday, November 5, providing attendees with the chance to sample the Mallar de los Trazos wine paired with a mild cheese from El Hormicián. The remaining visits are scheduled for November 12, 19, and 26, at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. All participants will receive a commemorative postcard of the activity, illustrated by the cartoonist Eduardo González, who created the poster for both ‘Al Son del Vino’ and ‘La Laguna a Pie’.
