The Minister for Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030, Pablo Bustinduy, expressed his support this Friday for the Minister of Labour, Yolanda Díaz, and the unions, by rejecting the proposed ‘flexible sick leave’ model put forward by the Ministry of Social Security.
“I am not familiar with the proposal as I believe it has not been fully articulated, but I am aware of the response from the unions and the Ministry of Labour, which serves as a guide when it comes to safeguarding and respecting workers’ rights. If they disapprove, then so do I,” he stated to reporters during his visit to an ‘ecomodor’ school in Tenerife.
The proposal from Minister Elma Saiz broadly suggests that if a worker voluntarily agrees and is under medical supervision, they can blend their work with their sick leave period to augment their financial income at the specified time. It is noted that the discussion is still in a very preliminary stage.
