The National Police has announced the apprehension of a man and a woman in Tacoronte (Tenerife) as suspected culprits in at least seven violent thefts carried out in Puerto de la Cruz, during which elderly individuals were attacked from behind.
A man assaulted the victims from behind to seize their personal possessions, while a woman waited in a vehicle for their getaway, as stated by the National Police in a press release on Monday. They added that following the thefts, they attempted to withdraw cash using stolen cards in shops.
The judiciary has mandated the provisional detention of the man, who faces charges for breaching a restraining order, committing a traffic safety offence, and assaulting law enforcement officials.
The vehicles utilised in the robberies were hired, and the search of one of these vehicles yielded evidence to support the charges related to the thefts and to investigate other potential offences committed by the detainees.
