Canary Islands Parliament to Address Measures for Individuals with Mental Disabilities

SAN SEBASTIÁN DE LA GOMERA Oct. 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Gomera Socialist Group (ASG) intends to centre their governmental oversight session, scheduled for next week at the Canary Islands Parliament, on individuals with mental disabilities and the measures implemented to provide them with a comprehensive solution. They will also address the ramifications of the miscalculation by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) regarding the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the islands.

In a public statement, the group clarified that during the Assembly, the spokesperson for the ASG Parliamentary Group, Casimiro Curbelo, will query the Minister for Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Children and Families, Candelaria Delgado, regarding the advancements achieved in the islands concerning a matter that impacts numerous Canarian families.

Furthermore, he will elucidate that “over 71,100 individuals have received treatment from the Mental Health services of the Canarian Health Service, yet these statistics merely represent a fraction of the significant challenge we are confronted with. This is an issue that, rather than being resolved, continues to necessitate urgent and coordinated public attention.”

Additionally, during the Assembly, the Group’s president, Melodie Mendoza, will seek updates from the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty regarding the outcomes of the recent meetings held with European authorities.

The ASG representative remarked that during these discussions, “stakeholders from the agricultural sector, the Parliament, and the Canarian Government urged the European institutions to enhance the POSEI budget to offset the over 50% rise noted in production costs.”
