Canary Islands Employment Initiative Receives 45 Million Funding Approval from Central Government

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 3 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Council of Ministers has sanctioned, this Tuesday, the agreement proposed by the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy, permitting the State Public Employment Service to allocate a grant of 45,000,000 euros for the execution of a Comprehensive Employment Plan aimed at the Canary Islands.

This all-encompassing plan recognises the unique ultra-peripheral circumstances and distinct geographical factors faced by the Canary Islands, which lead to extra costs impacting their economic progress.

Key objectives of the Comprehensive Employment Plan for the Canary Islands include fostering initiatives that aid in the employment of jobless individuals within the islands and ensuring job retention and sustainability. Additionally, the plan aims to establish specific measures to support those greatly affected by the economic repercussions of the coronavirus, including self-employed individuals, employees on temporary contracts, those impacted by ERTE due to force majeure or other reasons, and those engaged in domestic work. Further, it seeks to implement targeted actions for those who are long-term unemployed and groups that are particularly vulnerable in terms of employment.

Furthermore, the document outlines a commitment to enhancing comprehensive training and qualifications for young people; backing entrepreneurial ventures, particularly within social economy enterprises; and fostering equal opportunities for both men and women, alongside the most disadvantaged groups.
