Canary Islands Emergency Team Conducts Over 400 Operations in Valencia

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 12. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Canarian emergency operation, which has relocated to Valencia under the direction of the Government of the Canary Islands, has conducted 418 actions in the Alfafar-Massanassa area since November 5, when on-site efforts commenced.

This was announced by the president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, in response to an inquiry from the spokesperson for the ASG Parliamentary Group, Casimiro Curbelo, regarding the insights gained from the flooding that took place on the Peninsula due to DANA.

Casimiro Curbelo highlighted that these floods “provide us with significant lessons, which could be beneficial for the islands in terms of risk prevention and management related to extreme weather events.” He emphasised that these are “lessons that can assist us in the preparation, prevention and response to future floods or climate-related disasters in the archipelago.”

In turn, Fernando Clavijo expressed the need to feel “immensely proud” of the firefighters, National Police, Canarian Police, and Local Police who have travelled to the Valencian Community, demonstrating a “true example” of dedication.

Clavijo lamented that, in the face of such a significant event, political disagreements often receive more attention than the collective effort of all parties to tackle an emergency situation that “will persist for an extended period.”

In this context, Fernando Clavijo underscored “the political unity, mutual understanding and solidarity” exhibited in the Canary Islands by various political factions, much like during the extensive wildfires in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Gomera, or La Palma.

“The reality is that this political cohesion has consistently existed, which speaks to the resilience we maintain in the Canary Islands and our ability to remain insulated from conflict,” remarked the Canary Islands president, who concluded that the key takeaways from this experience underline the significance of urban planning and specific infrastructures in terms of safeguarding lives.
