“Black Pearl Arrives at Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port!”

No, this isn’t about Jack Sparrow’s legendary vessel or a band of Caribbean marauders in pursuit of excitement. The ‘Black Pearl’ (Black Pearl) that has recently arrived in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is among the most spectacular sailing boats globally, and it hasn’t taken long to attract the attention of thousands.

This ultra-modern yacht exemplifies the wealth and opulence amassed by Russian entrepreneur Oleg Burlakov. Launched in 2016, it measures 106.7 metres in length and was innovatively designed to enhance the utilisation of sustainable technologies. It features three DynaRig masts, which together boast a sail area of 2,900 square metres.

Featuring a steel hull, aluminium superstructure, and carbon fibre masts, the yacht was engineered for transatlantic journeys with minimal fuel usage, employing a variable pitch propeller that generates electricity while underway.

The yacht can host up to 12 guests across various suites, including VIP and double cabins. Amenities include an on-deck jacuzzi, a convertible cinema, a beach club, and a tender garage. Moreover, the vessel can reach speeds of up to 30 knots in optimal conditions, powered by diesel engines that enable cruising at 17.5 knots.

The tale of the ‘Black Pearl’ also intertwines with that of its proprietor, Burlakov, who built his wealth following the dissolution of the USSR and passed away in 2021 under mysterious circumstances. Currently, his €3 billion fortune is embroiled in legal disputes.

Inspired by the design of the ‘Maltese Falcon’, the ‘Black Pearl’ initiative commenced in 2010 and culminated in 2018, following a comprehensive development phase at the Oceanco shipyards. Since its launch, the yacht has garnered accolades, including Sailing Superyacht of the Year in 2019, establishing itself as a marvel of marine engineering and a benchmark for sustainability.
