The National Police have detained two individuals, aged 37 and 45, hailing from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, as the suspected offenders in a case of arson involving a property in Puerto de la Cruz, situated in the northern part of the island. The involvement of the public was crucial in pinpointing the suspected detainee, who was seen carrying a jerrycan typically used for transporting fuel, according to the Police on Monday.
Due to the intense ferocity of the flames, the officers were compelled to evacuate several neighbouring residences and temporarily restrict traffic with the assistance of the Local Police along the Carretera General de El Botánico, as a precaution due to the site’s proximity, which also helped to facilitate the operations of the firefighting units.
Fortunately, at the time of the incident, the house was unoccupied, so there were no injuries reported.
Consequently, the National Police have apprehended two individuals. The first, aged 37, was arrested initially, and following an inquiry, a second suspect, aged 45, was identified and subsequently detained for their involvement in collaboration with the first in the act of arson.
Both individuals taken into custody have been handed over to the relevant judicial authority. The National Police have expressed gratitude to the public for their support and have reiterated that such cooperation is vital in the fight against crime.
